Fix Blame Runtime, the Linux VM where agents and previews run on macOS, and find the logs.

Blame needs macOS 13 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel. The app is signed and notarized.

Blame Runtime

On first launch, Blame sets up a small Linux VM, based on Lima, where agents, worktrees, and previews run. Blame calls it Blame Runtime, and manages it in Settings → Desktop → Blame Runtime:

  • Install, Repair, or Check again, depending on its state;
  • Start over → Reset deletes the sandbox and installs a fresh one. Your projects are not touched; running local previews stop.

If Blame Runtime can't start, install, or update, Blame first repairs it by itself. If that fails, it shows Blame Runtime needs a repair: Repair reinstalls the parts that are broken, and your projects are not touched. Start over resets it.

While the runtime is not ready, you can still work: choose Use Direct instead to run a story in your project folder, without isolation, or use a Cloud Preview.

"Local containers aren't available on this computer"

Blame Runtime needs macOS 13 or later. On an older version, run stories in the cloud or directly in your project.

Logs

  • The app's log: ~/Library/Application Support/dev.blame.desktop/logs/blame-live.log
  • Each story's setup, agent, and merge logs: .blame/logs/ in its worktree
  • A story's preview: its Run logs tab
