# MCP servers

MCP servers give Blame agents access to external tools and context. Blame keeps one list of servers, used by every agent in every project.

## Add a server

Open **Settings → MCP Servers** and choose **Add server**. Give it a **Name** (for example "GitHub"), then pick a **Connection**:

| Connection             | What to enter                                       |
| ---------------------- | --------------------------------------------------- |
| **Local command** | The **Command** that starts the server, such as `npx` |
| **HTTP server** | The **Server URL** (streamable HTTP) |
| **SSE server (legacy)** | The **Server URL** |

**Advanced options** add a **Timeout** (1 to 3,600 seconds), and:

- for a local command: its **Arguments**, **Working directory**, and **Environment variables**;
- for an HTTP or SSE server: **Request headers**.

## Manage servers

Each server has a switch to turn it on or off, and can be edited or removed. A server that signs in with OAuth shows **Connect** and **Disconnect**.

The list is stored on your computer in `~/.cline/data/settings/cline_mcp_settings.json`.

## With an account

When you are signed in, your MCP servers sync to your other computers, without their local arguments or credentials. On another computer, such a server shows **Setup required**: choose **Complete setup** to fill them in.

<Callout title="Security">
  An MCP server runs with the access you give it. Connect servers you trust: vulnerabilities in third-party MCP servers are outside the scope of [Blame's security policy](https://github.com/rchrp/Blame/blob/main/SECURITY.md).
